That’s what my Punjabi mother would say, anytime I was bored or tired or generally dissatisfied with what the world had to offer.

Here I am, still following her advice.

Hi, I’m A. P. Firdaus — call me Abhi — a writer, reader and armchair critic of the absolute state of our world.

Book-Shook is my attempt to share the books I find worth reading — and the reasons I think you might, too.

I’m a novelist, a history nerd, and a soured lover of technology, and I’ve lived in New Delhi, Singapore, Berlin and London. My reading tends to reflect all of these things, occasionally wandering into politics, pop culture and the art of writing. (Or ‘writing-shiteing’, as my mother would say.)

Like most readers, I live for the thrill of finding a new book to love. If there’s one you think I’d like, send it my way and I’ll happily tip my hat to you.

Lastly, I do this on my own, in the middle of the night, because it makes me happy. I’ll never charge for it, nor stuff it with ghastly ads. And I certainly won’t sully it with chatbot slop. Hell, I don’t even use spell-check, as you’ll probably discover.

If you like a book I like, clicking and buying it will (sometimes) give me a commission.

If you go and buy my novel, it will (always) fill me with joy.

Remember, Mr Sharma by A. P. Firdaus

A novel featuring 90s nostalgia, memories of India’s partition and fascists making fools of themselves.
